“What makes you think they haven’t changed it since you defected? You’d have to almost expect that they would!” Julius reasoned listening to Bane’s plan of passage into the grounds.

She’ll make a fine addition to my wall!”

“Still wallowing?” Charlie sighed as he entered the darkened room of Caleb’s study. The Alpha was lying on the sofa near the fireplace watching his mate outside with her best friend. Over the last week or so she hadn’t spoken a word to him and had blocked him from her thoughts as well. She had, in not so few words, demanded he give her space to clear her thoughts and figure out what she wanted to do.

Afraid of poking her and causing her to unravel any further he complied and had been in a state of depression ever since. She smiled on occasion but never to him. She met with several members of the pack and learned what she could about their Alpha from their points of view. Even asked Charlie for advice a few times and went through old journals and books finding anything she could possibly use to better grasp her situation.

They were all fully aware of what their Alpha was doing within the closed boundaries of his quarters and no one dared to interrupt the act even hearing the obvious signs of a struggle. Upon entering Charlie discovered the bedroom window shattered and glass covering the floor and part of the dresser. The headboard had been smashed to pieces and there were holes in the plaster around the bed.

And I’m not gonna lie, it’s kinda scary,” he smiled to himself as he thought about Rafe’s age. “Here we were treating him like a newborn when he’s about a century or two older than us.”

It was beyond her why their meetings were always held out in the middle of nowhere and in the scariest looking places around. It wasn’t as if it deterred people from visiting. The last three meets were interrupted by hikers, campers and just plain curious teens. But she did what she was told in hopes of gaining standing with the magical ones.
