“What’s happening?” Caleb demanded as Kaya was placed on a gurney and wheeled into the clinic.

“She’s in labor,” Roberta replied, doing her best to get the squirming Luna hooked up to an IV. “Hold her still!”

Caleb and Charlie stood on either side of the bed, securing Kaya down as the doctor diligently went to work. Roberta moved to Kaya’s side. Placing her stethoscope in her ears, she listened to the Luna’s heart and the rapid succession of beats that signified arrhythmia. “Kaya, do you mind lifting your dress for me? I’d like to run a quick sonogram to see where we are here.”

Caleb and Kaya rushed through the front door of the manor, nearly knocking into the assembled group of wolves awaiting their return. Caleb had howled, alerting the pack. In his communication he made them aware of the situation, what they’d discovered and readied them for what was about to happen next. “Joey’s locked in a room on the second floor of the old shoe factory. We have to get to him before he’s discovered. I sensed there were at least three others in the building. Charlie, Connor and I will lead a small group back to Mystic Springs to get him. Sophie, I need you and Karri to get to the woods, find as much Dogroot as you can. Kaya tried healing him but the effects of her blood will only sustain him for so long,” Caleb instructed.

“That was you?” she asked, dropping her knife into the sink in a huff.

“What was me?” he asked innocently and continued devouring his fruit.

She scowled, narrowing her eyes in his direction and the cocky smirk on his face. “What gives you the right to spy on me?”

Kendrick, Braedan, Trinity and Rayne had been sent to clean up any and all evidence of his presence in the Shadow lands while Joey, David and Rand handled scouting.

“Yeah, I’m fine, just tired,” she sighed and stepped into the house ahead of him. It had taken the rest of the night to clear the scene and by the time they made it back, it was already early afternoon. “I’m a little worried though. That was a Wolf Council member, dead on our land! Do you have any idea what this means?”

He had done all he could to pacify the masses; spinning lie after lie about everything being under control.
