“Do you remember me?” Kaya asked dropping onto the sofa nearest the fireplace. Her gaze fanned the room and she took in the numerous pictures Charlie surrounded himself with, all family she assumed.

“I do. You were five years old and a biter,” he smirked. “Maybe I deserved it; I had just ransacked your home. But man, I had the imprint of your little teeth in my hand for a whole week! And you weren’t even a wolf at the time! I imagine that bite has gotten worse!” He stepped around the desk and leaned against it as he watched Rafe examine the photographs and journals lining the tables and shelves in the office before joining her on the couch. “Do you remember me?”

“Kind of. I had my memories wiped and only recently got them back. Though I’m wary about trusting what I see I remember what happened the night my mom died. I remember Rafe, erm Caleb, talking to me. I remember you picking me up and trying to distract me as Rafe…Caleb killed her. And I remember hiding near the horses where Caleb found me. He told me everything was ok and my mother was only sleeping.” She sighed and dropped her gaze away when Rafe turned to look at her. “But again I don’t know how accurate that is.”

“Well unfortunately it is what happened that night. The pack got there and we were on a mission to find you. We’d sent a scout in advance to let us know whether or not you were on the premises.”

Episode 43: Fetch

Leaves blew around his feet and a slight chill filled the air surrounding the foreboding manor not twenty yards away from him.

Summary: Kaya goes out looking for Rafe but lands herself in hot water when it's another wild wolf that finds her. Rafe is introduced to someone that could possibly provide him with the answers he seeks but his willingness to accept the truth comes with a price.

Kaya made it to Shadowvale and immediately hit the trail she and Rafe had traveled before. Quickly finding his scent she started towards the ridge and smiled as she remembered frolicking and camping out with him prior to becoming mates. Who’d have guessed they’d create memories in this place? She trudged up the small incline cussing herself for the imprudence in her hiking boots. As she cleared the area beside the lake her phone started ringing loudly in her pocket.

Reaching for it quickly, she placed it on vibrate and frowned seeing the caller ID read: Dad. Deciding to give him a call later she started to replace the small device back in her pocket when an angry growl ripped through the shrubbery just in front of her. “Hello?” she spoke calmly realizing her cell had alerted the resident wolves. “I’m not looking for trouble I’m trying to find someone.”

Kaya rushed up the stairs of the manor and towards the east wing. Without so much as a knock or announcement she burst through her father’s bed chambers and entered his private study. “Rafe’s gone!” she spoke out of breath and excitedly. “I have to go after him, I already feel weak and I’m scared! Anything could happen to him while he’s gone. And with Luther still out for revenge and now Bane on his ass and this thing with some guy from his old band…” she dropped into a chair as her breathing became more erratic and hung her head in her hands. “I tried to tell him this would happen. What was he thinking? We can’t do this, not with the lack of bond! How can any wolf stand it!?”
